It’s Not Just Real Estate - It’s the Pine Island Lifestyle!

If you have ever been to Bokeelia, Pineland, St. James City or Matlacha in Pine Island, Florida you know that this is not an island that takes itself too seriously.  That's not to say, however, that you can't have some serious fun! With breathtaking views and some of the best water access in Southwest Florida, Pine Island is a true Island lovers' paradise.

While it may be true that we do not have long sandy beaches, Cayo Costa - accessible only by boat - is a short ride away and offers 9 miles of pristine, sandy beaches with some of the best shelling in Florida.

Any fisherman out there?  We will not brag too much about the fact that we are internationally known as one of the world's top fishing destinations.  Boca Grande Pass, for example, is the Tarpon Capital of the World and only a five minute boat ride from Bokeelia to boot.

OK, OK, enough about the fact that you cannot run out of fun and exciting things to do on Pine Island.  (Check out our blog to see what cool things we are doing now.)  Let's get to the reason you looked us up in the first place: You need a place to hang your hat in between all of these awesome activities. Well, future flamingo lovers, you have landed at the right spot. Mike and Brian have a VAST (or at least a pretty good) knowledge of Pine Island and its real estate market and are ready to help you in your search in any way they can.

Why You'll Love Living in Pine Island, Florida

Pine Island, located in Lee County, Florida, is on the Gulf coast of southwest Florida just 30 minutes from the mainland cities of Cape Coral and Fort Myers. With less than 6000 year-round residents, it boasts all the natural beauty of an unspoiled tropical island and a friendly small-town atmosphere. Pine Island contains four communities:

  • Pine Island Center has several small shopping centers and a grocery store, a heated community pool, tennis courts, ball fields, an elementary school, museum, fire station and library.
  • St. James City is the largest area, with over half of the island's population. Most of the homes are located along direct access canals that lead to the Gulf of Mexico. Colorful waterside restaurants with boat access and watering holes abound.
  • Pineland hosts the archeological site of the Calusa Indians, who occupied Pine Island for over 1,500 years, and the adjoining Randell Research Center. For boaters, there is a large marina offering fishing charters and an island taxi service to the outer islands of Useppa and Cayo Costa.
  • Bokeelia has an abundance of tropical fruit and palm tree farms, an 18-hole golf course, fishing piers, a full-service marina, waterfront lodging, restaurants, and art gallery.
  • Matlacha has evolved from a small fishing village to a center for local artists and writers, featuring an colorful mix of art galleries, boutiques and eateries. Still honoring its fishing heritage, it also hosts several fresh seafood shops and the "most fished off of" bridge in Florida!

Pine Island Florida - A Fisherman's Paradise

Pine Island's easy, affordable access to Boca Grande Pass and the Gulf of Mexico offers some of the best fishing and boating in the world. Tarpon, snook, redfish, grouper, snapper, sea trout and many other varieties help make this a fisherman's paradise.

Flats fishing, or light tackle fishing is one of the most popular types of sport fishing in the local waters. The sport of tarpon fishing originated in Pine Island Sound. Boca Grande Pass (just 20 minutes across Pine Island Sound from Bokeelia) is considered the "Tarpon Capital of the World."

The waters of Matlacha Pass and the Pine Island Sound Aquatic Preserve are also delightful to explore by kayak or canoe. Non-paddlers can take a cruise or water taxi to the outer islands of Cayo Costa, North Captiva or Cabbage Key to picnic on the beach or dine in one of the casual waterfront restaurants specializing in fresh seafood, served up island-style.

Matlacha Pass National Wildlife Refuge is located on Pine Island, where bird watchers enjoy sightings of osprey, roseate spoonbills, many species of herons and egrets, ibises, bald eagles, owls, hawks and songbirds. Surrounded by three aquatic preserves, Pine Island is also home to many species of wildlife including manatees, dolphins and sea otters.
